1. Delaware State Park

Boasting sprawling meadows, lush woodlands, and a 1,300-acre reservoir, Delaware State Park is the perfect destination for a day trip with your family. Covering nearly 1,700 acres, this Ohio state park is open year-round and offers a myriad of recreational opportunities. Delaware State Park opened its doors to the public in the early 1950s and is named after the Delaware Indians that once inhabited the area.

Driving from downtown Fredericktown to Delaware State Park takes approximately 45 minutes, driving 37 miles west via route OH-656. The main attraction here is Delaware Lake, which was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1951. Nowadays, this public recreation area boasts large campgrounds, plenty of public boat ramps, hunting grounds, fishing piers, and picnic spots.

2. Malabar Farm State Park

Located just 17 miles northeast of Fredericktown, Malabar Farm State Park was established in the late 1930s by actor, farmer, and conservationist Louis Bromfield. Featuring a visitor center with interactive displays, a gift shop, and a working farm, this public recreation area regularly hosts events and exhibitions, and is the perfect place to visit with your family on a weekend.

Driving from downtown Fredericktown to Malabar Farm State Park takes a little over 20 minutes via route OH-95. Open every day between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm, this state park also features an extensive network of hiking trails, scenic viewpoints, and picnic areas. Make sure to check out the animal barn, join a guided farm wagon tour, and check out the festivals and interactive workshops taking place at the time of your visit.

3. Mohican-Memorial State Forest

A scenic nature retreat with thick forests, a scenic river gorge, cozy cabins, and plenty of fishing areas, Mohican-Memorial State Forest is another fantastic getaway for Fredericktown residents. Located just over 16 miles northeast of the town center, this state forest covers a little over 4,500 acres and was established in 1928. Some of the activities you can enjoy here include hiking, mountain biking, picnicking, and wildlife watching.
